 Alumni Schools

This Committee is chaired by Peter Coccia. Members of the Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) serve as ambassadors of the Notre Dame Admissions Office, representing the University to local high school students and their families.

The ASC is responsible for staffing college fairs to talk with students who are interested in applying to Notre Dame and for hosting an annual ND Information Night. Committee members also contact all high school students who are accepted into Notre Dame to assist them with their college decision. Finally, the ASC organizes a summer reception for the incoming freshman class. Committee members include Gary Muratore, Beth Albright, Rachel Barnes, Michael Gonzalez, Rob and Jana Patchen, and Lizett Schreiber.

Community Service

The Committee organizes the Summer Service Project where 2-3 Notre Dame students volunteer with a Columbus social service agency for eight weeks in the summer. This Committee also organizes the Urban Plunge where Notre Dame students who are home for the holidays spend 3 days and nights "plunging" into Columbus' inner-city and reflecting on the Catholic Church's social justice teaching. The Urban Plunge is organized in conjunction with the Columbus Diocese Department of Social Concerns. In the past the Community Service Committee has organized Notre Dame alumni to tutor at St. Stephen's Community House and to volunteer with other social service agencies in Columbus. This year the Committee would like to organize and sponsor an Alumni Urban Plunge. The Club is seeking persons to assist the Chair in organizing community service programs.

Scholarship

The Committee is responsible for organizing and promoting events, raffles, other efforts to fund-raise for the Club Scholarship Fund. The Club hopes to provide partial scholarships to two Central Ohio students from each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) each year. That is a total of eight scholarships a year. Some of the scholarship money comes from the interest on the principle of the profit the Club earned from the 1995-1996 Notre Dame-Ohio State football game activities. However, that interest is not enough, and it is up to the Scholarship Committee to organize and promote fund-raising events which will help to make up the difference and enable the Club to continue providing scholarships to Central Ohio Notre Dame students. The University selects student recipients of scholarships based on financial need and input from the Club. The Committee is seeking persons who will volunteer as Committee members to assist in organizing and promoting events.

Communication

The Committee is one of the most important because it writes, formats and distributes the Club's quarterly newsletter. The Committee is currently looking for people to write articles about Club events, Club members and anything else of interest. The Committee also is developing and monitoring the Club's website. The Committee is also responsible for sending quarterly reports of Club activities to the University for inclusion in the Notre Dame Magazine's Club Notes Section. The Club is seeking persons to assist with the preparation and distribution of the newsletter. Persons interested in working on the hard copy newsletter should contact the committee chairman.

Christmas Mass

The chair organizes the annual Notre Dame-St. Mary's Christmas Mass. This event has historically been one of the Club's most popular and successful. Organization involves scheduling of the church and reception hall as well as catering, the priest, and Santa Claus. It also involves sending out invitations and receiving RSVPs. In the past the chair has worked with local businesses which have donated a small toy to each child who attends. Finally, the chair arranges for all persons who attend to bring offertory gifts of food, toys or money which the Club then donates to a local non-profit agency.

Universal Notre Dame Night

This event is chaired by the current Vice President. The chair organizes the annual Universal Notre Dame Night event which usually takes place in May of each year. Organization involves scheduling of the banquet hall and caterer. It also involves ordering and coordinating with the University for a professor or administrator to attend and speak at the event. Finally it involves sending out invitations and receiving RSVPs.

Summer Picnic

The summer picnic is typically held in August. Organization involves scheduling a location and coordinating food.

Golf Outing
